What is Reality2?

A mobile-first mesh protocol for phones, wearables and IoT. Your devices find each other, prove who they are, and communicate securely - without logins, without pairing screens, without a cloud in the middle. The same code runs on a $5 microcontroller, a phone, a laptop, a server, or inside your web browser.

No Friction

No passwords, no pairing dialogs, no login screens. Devices in a trust group recognise each other through cryptographic certificates. If you're a member, you're in. Authentication is invisible.

Any Device

One Rust codebase compiles to bare-metal microcontrollers (ESP32, RP2040), Linux SBCs (Raspberry Pi), desktop, mobile, and about 300KB of WebAssembly in the browser. A $5 chip and a cloud VM are equal peers.

Any Transport

BLE, WiFi, LoRa, USB, WebSocket - R2 treats them all the same. Networks come and go. The system adapts, routes around failures, and strengthens paths that work.

No Cloud Dependency

The protocol runs on your devices. A relay helps with connectivity across the internet, but it's untrusted infrastructure - it forwards encrypted bytes it cannot read. Your data never touches someone else's server.

Technology that stays calm - working quietly in the background, only stepping forward when it genuinely needs your attention. Technology that adapts - finding new paths when old ones fail, strengthening connections that matter, letting go of ones that don't. Digital sovereignty - real control over your own identity, data, and relationships - made practical.

People and Planet

Reality2 isn't only about protecting your data. It's about technology in symbiosis with the world it lives in - distributed intelligence that serves people and the natural world, instead of extracting from them.

Symbiosis, not extraction

The mesh exists because your devices create it - not because a company monetises it. Intelligence lives at the edge, where things actually happen: sensing, deciding and acting locally. Your data has value, and you decide whether and how it's shared. Nothing is harvested by default.

Sovereignty for people and nature

A person wearing a watch, ring and phone forms a sovereign trust group. Sensors across a river catchment can form one too, governed by the community that looks after it. Reality2 extends digital sovereignty beyond people to the living world - rivers, forests and mountains - cared for through the people and groups who act as their guardians.

On-grid and off

Distributed senses and intelligence carried over BLE, WiFi and LoRa - working whether or not there's internet. When a storm takes the cell towers down, the mesh is designed to keep watching the river and keep people connected. Resilience is the point.

Sovereignty isn't a setting you switch on. It's built into the architecture - so the people and communities who are guardians of their own data, and of the rivers, forests and mountains they care for, stay in control by design.

Rust Core

no_std protocol crates: r2-wire, r2-cbor, r2-fnv, r2-trust, r2-route, r2-transport, r2-engine. One codebase, every target.

WASM Bindings

r2-wasm wraps the protocol stack for browsers via wasm-bindgen. Trust groups, frame encode/decode, encryption - about 300KB as currently shipped.
